Island of Krk
The Island of Krk is in the Bay of Kvarner. Krk is
the biggest island in the Adriatic, with an area of
409.9 square kilometres and a population of 16,402
people. There are around 20 small islands around
Krk itself and the coast is highly indented, with
many pretty bays, the largest of which is Soline bay.
The island boasts a pleasant and mild Mediterranean
climate. The average summer temperature is 22.8
degrees and the sea water temperature is 23–25
degrees.
The island is blessed with over 2,500 hours of sun a year!
Krk also has beautiful landscapes, with cultivated Mediterranean
fruit and vegetables, vineyards and olive groves.
Culture
If you are looking for something cultural to do, the 5th
Century Cathedral of the Assumption with the churches of
St. Margaret and St. Quirinus are well worth a visit. There
are well-preserved remains from the Roman period within
the city walls. Then there is Kamplin Square and the well
known Frankopan castle.
The main city square is called Vela placa. It has a large
town hall from the 15th century and a Renaissance fountain.
